CALL FOR ENTRIES! WE WANT YOUR BAD MOVIES! Submit today to the #1 film festival that refuses to take itself seriously: swede fest palm beach™ 10

Now it’s your turn…

If you want your shot at being a Big Shot Director, you can make your own no-budget, 3-minute remake of a Hollywood hit then take a turn on the *red carpet! We celebrate a decade of mediocrity this year with a special “Best of the Fest” showcase featuring the best (worst) swedes of the past 10 years. But we WANT YOUR BAD MOVIES to make this year the most epic, epicness of all (sweded) film history!  All titles need to be submitted to info@swedefestpalmbeach.com by March 1 and all swedes must be submitted by March 14. The big event takes place March 28 at the Lake Worth Playhouse. Doors open at 6 pm and showtime starts at 7 pm. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased here.

*carpet may not actually be red (or even carpet)

Now it’s your turn…
  1. Share the glorious news with your friends!
  2. Reserve your title today at info@swedefestpalmbeach.com
  3. Stay tuned for location and date then buy your tickets!

Forever honoring bad remakes of Hollywood hits, the wildly popular, sell-out event showcases laughably bad, 3-minute remakes of Hollywood hits made by amateur filmmakers throughout Palm Beach County.

For the utterly uninitiated, a “swede” is a no-budget, hilarious remake of a Hollywood film — the basis for the movie “Be Kind, Rewind,” which spawned an underground sweding craze and resulted in the first swede fest™ in Fresno, Calif. Next came swede fest™ tampa bay, then swede fest™ palm beach in 2012. Picture “Twister” filmed using balled up paper towels; “The Fast and the Furious” reenacted using children’s Big Wheels – these are only a few examples of the hundreds of films submitted the past six years. Perfect “short attention span theater,” each film is maxed out at 3 minutes, meaning that as “so-bad-it’s-good” as the film may be, another one is soon to appear.

The audience votes on the best/worst film made, which could win bragging rights for the future (or not) filmmaker, and a special grand prize. Additional award prizes will also be given for overall epic-ness. It is completely free to enter a swede, and selected films will receive a complimentary ticket for the director. Even if you don’t have a film submitted, seeing the filmmakers dressed in their versions of “Hollywood bizarre” is worth the admission price, which is a mere $10 per person(ish).

All films must be rated PG-13. Also, there is only one swede per film title, so no one will be stuck watching three painful fabulous remakes of “Hot Tub Time Machine.” Updates on film titles are posted to the swede fest™ palm beach Facebook page, and rules and details are located, well, here.

The event is completely volunteer-run, and individuals and businesses looking to become a sponsor can email info@swedefestpalmbeach.com or call Elizabeth Dashiell during working hours at 561-543-8276 to learn about the many ways they can gain shameless amounts of exposure to hundreds of all-ages residents. Swede fest™ palm beach 9 is currently sponsored by the Palm Beach Film SocietyAlchemy Communications and an anonymous donor.
